SIBU: Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu Numpang has urged Dayak political leaders not to fight with one another because such conflicts will undermine the solidarity of the community.
“Our theme is ‘Segulai, Sejalai, Sepenemu’ (together, consensus and unite) to realise our dreams and for the development of the Dayak community.
“If there is a problem in politics try to solve it in the interest of unity of our people,” Jabu said at the Sarawak Dayak National Union’s (SDNU) Sibu branch here last night.
Jabu, who is also Modernisation, Agriculture and Rural Development Minister, said all political problems among the Dayak community could be settled through negotiations.
He said the resolutions passed by the Iban Culture Symposium 2013 and the General Conference Sarawak Iban 2013 would be discussed by the state cabinet and the state legislative assembly in November.
He added that this included a resolution on the Land Act involving native customary rights of the Dayak community.
“I have written to the chief minister and he has responded by allowing all resolutions discussed at the conference to be presented at the assembly before approval by the cabinet,” he said.
Jabu heads the Dayak-based Pesaka wing of the ruling Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and has long been accused of helping to keep the minority Muslims in power for the last 43 years by facilitating divide and rule politics.
